5 Girlfriend Getaway Ideas

5 Girlfriend Getaway Ideas - Celebrate Life in the Middle Blog

Now that more people are receiving the vaccine and we will soon have a higher percentage of herd immunity, I’m starting to think about getting more time with my friends once it is safe to do so.  I’ve been stuck safe at home with my family, and although I love them with all my heart and have truly appreciated having more quality time with them, it’s time to get out and do something different.   I am getting so excited to get out and enjoy visiting with my friends again- in person!   With restrictions easing in parts of the country but travel outside of Canada still challenging, I started researching some fun getaways that women can do within Saskatchewan to travel short distances and have some fun with their girlfriends.  Many of us have been stuck in the cities and I tried to find some fun travel destinations that are still within Saskatchewan, yet outside of Saskatoon and Regina.  Here are 5 fun girlfriend getaway ideas in Saskatchewan for you and your friends.

Elk Ridge Resort

Elk Ridge Resort is approx. 1 hour north of Prince Albert, located just outside the Prince Albert National Park.  The resort has 2-4BR Cabins, 2-3BR Townhouses, and 2-3BR Cottages along with their Lodge rooms (renovations ongoing with lodge rooms reopening May 15 2021).  So, you have a lot of choices for where/how you’d like to stay.

If you love to golf the Lodge has Stay and Play Golf Packages, with a 27-hole facility set in the beautiful Boreal Forest.  The course is absolutely stunning!

The Drift Spa is available with a complete selection of services for those of you who love to be pampered.

There is a saltwater pool and hot tub for relaxing if the lake and beach isn’t your thing.

The Wyld restaurant is located at the lodge for meals if you don’t wish to go out, with menus for breakfast and gluten-free options as well.

Treeosix Adventure Parks has partnered with the resort and offers their zipline adventure tours and electric bike rentals.  If you’ve never tried out an electric bike, make sure you do- there’s so much fun to be had!

And if you get tired of the resort and want to explore, you are a very short distance from Waskesiu lake and townsite in the Prince Albert National Park.  There are so many activities in the park for you and your friends with galleries, shopping, a theatre, marina, beaches, golf course, hiking, and many other outdoor activities.  It’s a perfect girlfriend getaway idea!

You can find all of the information about the resort as well as booking information at www.elkridgeresort.com.

Waters Edge Eco Lodge

The Waters Edge Eco Lodge is set in the beautiful Meadow Lake Provincial Park at Greig Lake, which is approx. 40 minutes from the town of  Meadow Lake. Meadow Lake Provincial Park is one of the largest provincial parks in Canada and boasts over 20 lakes, rivers and streams and is within the Northern Boreal Forest.

The lodge has committed to being eco-friendly and sustaining the Earth’s natural resources throughout construction and ongoing to this day. They do this by practicing and promoting energy efficiency, water conservation, organic gardening, composting and the 3 R’s-Recycle, Reduce and Reuse.

The lakefront lodge has 8 lakeview guest rooms with decks, and there is a complete kitchen and BBQ, along with indoor and outdoor common areas for guest use.  They also have 3 lakefront cottages that accommodate up to 6 people in each.  The private cottages have kitchens, BBQ, firepit and screened decks.

There are complimentary canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and a paddle boat for use.  There are also hiking trails in the area for you to enjoy.   This is a great girlfriend getaway that will be relaxing and enjoyable, while enjoying beautiful northern Saskatchewan.

Their newest resort is set to open June 15, 2021 at Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park and features glamorous lakefront tents complete with a 3-piece washroom, shower, toilet, kitchenette, king size bed with Endy mattress and luxury linens.  Each wood-framed tent has its own BBQ and private outdoor firepit for gathering with your friends and catching up.

Nearby, there is an 18 hole golf course, marina, beautiful beach and all of the outdoor activities you need to keep you as busy (or not) as you want.

The Northshore Resort is on the grounds of Buffalo Pound Lake- 20 minutes north of Moose Jaw.  The resort has safari tents and geodesic domes for you and your girlfriends who would prefer glamping to traditional camping, and those looking for a unique staycation experience.

The lakefront and lakeview geodesic domes have everything you need for a true glamping experience, including a full kitchen and bathroom and comfy beds.  The tents are a bit more pared back with a dry kitchen and modern outhouse, but still pretty luxurious and beautiful!

Churchill River Canoe Outfitters

If you want something different, off the beaten path, and definitely a fabulous adventure, consider Churchill River Canoe Outfitters (CRCO) for a trip of a lifetime with your girlfriends.  CRCO is located in Missinipe, SK, which is approx. 5 hours north of Saskatoon.  Missinipe is located on the Churchill River in the middle of the Precambrian Shield.  You’ll find absolutely stunning scenery here.

CRCO offers canoe trips along with everything related to canoeing including training, rentals, maps and more.  They have guided trips on many lakes in northern Saskatchewan for beginner to experienced canoeists.  If you are a novice canoeist like me, you can feel at ease that there will be a 5:1 guide ratio with safety and skills review prior to embarking.

There are short 4 day trips to longer 16 day trips for those with more experience, or work with CRCO and customize your own adventure.  These canoe trips are in some of the most stunning scenery in the world, where you can view many kinds of wildlife, and enjoy the peace that getting away from everything brings.

This definitely won’t be a relaxing, spa- type girlfriend getaway with your friends, but it will be a fun adventure that you will never forget!

Temple Gardens Hotel & Spa

This list wouldn’t be complete without including the Temple Gardens Hotel & Spa in beautiful, historic Moose Jaw, SK.  Moose Jaw is a 45 minute drive away from Regina and is a great spa-type getaway for you and your friends.

Temple Gardens has Canada’s largest geothermal mineral water pool that is both indoors and out.  You can spend time relaxing in the mineral water that is similar to the famous mineral water pools in Bath, England.  After enjoying the waters, you can spend time at the Sun Tree Spa where you can choose from a wide range of spa treatments and services.  Harwood’s Restaurant and Lounge as well as the Morningside Café are in the hotel, so you don’t have to leave to eat.

If you do venture out there is a lot to do, and many within walking distance in Moose Jaw.  There is a casino, golf course, galleries, shopping, meadery tours, trolley tours, beautiful murals, and of course the famous Tunnels of Moose Jaw.

This would definitely be a relaxing and fun girlfriend getaway for you and your friends.

With Covid restrictions hopefully easing in Saskatchewan by the summer, I hope that you can plan a trip away with your girlfriends.  It’s just what we need to reduce the stress that we’ve had over this past year.  And if you have friends like mine, getting back together with them will feel like you’ve never been apart and you will have so much fun!

Even if you’ve been immunized, it’s always important to stay healthy and safe while traveling.  See my blog post for tips on staying healthy while on vacation.

Take care,
